About The Project

The Leon Paul Project is a High Performance fencing programme for fencers from any club and country. Athletes train together to advance their fencing skills, while receiving fencing-specific support in the form of physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, and analytics. The Project is designed for international fencers, and aspiring internationals.

Our vision is centred upon creating an environment that nurtures the highest quality of training, whilst keeping a focus on building tactical systems that can be tailored to each and every fencer.

  • The Staff

Leon Paul Project coaches have all experienced the sport as internationally competitive fencers. They are now bringing their expertise to collaborate with colleague specialists in S & C, Physiotherapy, and Data Analysis whilst being supported by Leon Paul London’s depth and breadth of manufacturing expertise in manufacturing fencing products for over one hundred years.

  • The Athletes

Some of GB’s most successful fencers at world level have already committed to the Project. New applicants are always welcome as we look to sustain each generation - one to the next. The LP Project welcomes athletes of all ages, from 14 upwards, who are committed to working towards and achieving their full potential on the world stage.

  • The Facilities

The Leon Paul Centre is a state-of-the-art fencing facility, built in 2013, that uses many technologies developed for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The home of the LP Project, the Fencing Centre boasts 24 pistes, an S&C suite, onsite physio, an athlete breakout space for Project fencers as well as Project offices, meeting rooms, and the Leon Paul Shop and factory.

What do you get?

Every week in season, Project fencers will have access to 7 dedicated High Performance sessions with expert coaches, two 30-minute one-to-one lessons, free use of the Leon Paul gym, a personal strength & conditioning plan with supervised sessions, daytime access to the LP centre for additional personal training, footwork or sparring, discounted physio and sports injury therapy. They also have access to an athlete breakout area and work-space and many other benefits. Each fencer will work with the Project Weapon Coach to develop a personal training and competition plan and will be regularly tested by our S&C team in order to update and personalise their fitness plan. Those who train as part of The Project free to represent any club they choose. For more information and prices, please visit membership page.

How about competitions?

Having a coach in the competition room affords the fencer an extra pair of eyes on the movement up and down the piste. With this added set of perspectives, the coach and the fencer can bring back valuable insights and ideas into training to define the purpose, reinforce the process, identify the positives and so perfect the performance. That is why we provide competition coaching, and prioritise the importance of the coach-athlete relationship as much in the competition as in the training.

Training Schedule

We currently offer group training sessions to project fencers 6 days a week. Session times may change as required depending on the stage of the season and to fit in with fencers’ competition cycles. Please keep updated with the Leon Paul Staff for actual session times.
